Flashpaw is not one to jump into things in the blink of an eye. Her mind comes to a conclusion of every possible variable before speaking, and it works quite well in most situations. She is also known to quickly "change emotions"- when she actually is simply changing a bit of the personality she wants others to see. Inside, she is broken into pieces, and she hates feeling weak because of it. So she builds her walls; fights back her sadness, nervousness, and depression to keep them at as much of a minimal amount as possible. Despite her past issues which have driven her to be this way, she is at a steady incline and should be a lot more herself sometime in the future. Backstory (Special)..::;::.. K I T H O O D ..::;::..
This she-cat was born in an ordinary family with ordinary beliefs and ordinary feelings. The kits wanted to be warriors sooner than 6 moons; the parents were loving and supportive. Flashkit was practically the opposite of her sister- secretive, shy, strategic, and a cat of few words. Her sister would constantly bug her to play pranks and whatnot, and poor little Flashkit would be dragged along into trouble with her. The only cat that could really bring her out of her seemingly impenetrable shell was Branchkit, a happy-go-lucky, gullible and trustworthy tom. The three would hang out all the time and play games together. Kithood was the most peaceful time in all three of the kits' lives; so carefree and easy-going. ..::;::.. A P P R E N T I C E S H I P ..::;::.. Rosekit and Flashkit got their apprentice names at the age of six moons- Rosepaw and Flashpaw. Rosepaw was assigned to Crowheart, the particularly unhappy and strict one of the bunch, while Flashpaw was assigned to... Servalwing? She wasn't exactly a well-known cat; more like a quiet bystander in this loud world. And yet, while Rosepaw came back to the den complaining of her rude mentor, Flashpaw came back happy. Servalwing was kind, patient, and overall determined to make her the best warrior she could be. Life went on as normal, until one day out in the forest with Branchpaw. They had spotted a fast-moving piece of unknown prey, which their mentors had sent them after. They moved through the territory from bush to bush, keeping silent. It began to get suspicious; what prey would rustle in one bush, and then rustle in another a few feet up without making an appearance? Beginning to feel like something was off, she mentioned it to her best friend. His expression turned to one of slight fear, but also determination. He said that they may not get this prey, but while they were out here, he had something important to tell her. *the following in italic, flashpaw does not remember* Branchpaw confessed his long-time crush on Flashpaw, and that he didn't know what to do. Unable to cope with it, she attempted to make a joke out of it like Branchpaw had done so many times before. She asked why, with a slight smile. Branchpaw got angry and told her that he didn't know, and that if he had to prove himself worthy of her, he would. Flashpaw mentioned that she had no idea what he meant, and angered, he took off, practically in tears. Pausing for a moment to recollect her thoughts, Flashpaw eventually continued after him. A bloodcurdling scream sent the female into a full-on sprint as she chased after the scent trail, shouting Branchpaw's name all the way. The scent of blood wafted up her nose as she stared at the horrible sight ahead of her. Branchpaw was on the ground, bloodied, bruised, and broken, his body mangled in all different angles and his eyes permanently open and fearful. His last words were that of fear- "Run." The smoky apprentice began screaming and shouting, begging for someone, anyone to help her and her friend. Eventually, a few members of the Clan, Servalwing, and Hollyshadow arrived. Branchpaw was ushered to the medicine cat den, and Flashpaw was interrogated repeatedly with questions. "Did you see it happen?" "What attacked him?" "Are you hurt?" She was sick and tired of it, and never answered, her face haunted and her eyes downcast. If you asked her a question, she would politely excuse herself and hide in her den. Flashpaw didn't talk for three days after the murder. The Clan became used to the silent apprentice, and after a few tries, her mentor stopped pressuring her to speak. She lived in a haze for over a moon, dragging herself to and fro chores and training sessions. The feline began to wear a mask of convincing emotions, that she was okay and that she had gotten over it. Little did she know, it was making it worse. Her entire life now resided on this one mask, and if she took it off, she would fall apart. It was as though the strings holding the mask together also held her life together as well. Due to episodes of panic, she had trouble remembering things, and was often sent to the medicine den for medicine for her asthma, which was severe and growing by the day. She didn't like the medicine cat. Daydream was rude, and acted like their life was horrible, when they were able to help their Clan without setbacks like her. In the smoky apprentice's mind, Daydream's life was perfect and easygoing, and that they were petty and taking it for granted. Only on one of these fateful checkups did she see the real medicine cat, the haunted and broken figure beneath. She had come in for some asthma medication, and the pair just started... talking. She would try and convince the medicine cat that she was happy and living life to the fullest, but they weren't naive. They saw right through her fake emotions and personality due to experience with the subject and, eventually and hesitantly, Flashpaw dropped the concealer. Immediately, she practically broke down, sinking to the floor and into a pool of despair. But, shockingly, Daydream was there, and was her shoulder to lean on. They told her about their father and their life, and the warrior apprentice began to feel worse for doubting the medicine cat. Only then did she notice how ragged and tired they were, and she began to try and be their shoulder to lean on as well. That same day, Daydream asked if the female would like to take a different path of training. A medical path. Flashpaw said yes after a moment, shocked. After speaking to Goldenstar, her mentor, and her sister, she was announced informally as ShadowClan's medicine cat apprentice, due to Daydream refusing to instate her by StarClan's ways. About halfway into her training, she went to her first Gathering, which was also her first as a medicine cat apprentice. While there, she met SkyClan medicine cat Shinefang. She was excited to meet him after hearing many good things about him from her new mentor. Just as the pair was starting to get along and have a decent talk about RiverClan's medicine cat, Juniperpaw, Daydream broke in with the news that would taint their relationship forever- Juniperpaw was dead. Flashpaw seemed to shut down. In her 10 moons of life, she had experienced so many deaths of medicine cats. Shinefang immediately seemed to take out his anger on her as she had a small asthma attack, saying words that would haunt her for life- "You need to teach your apprentice to handle stress better. She can't have breathing problems while helping a queen give birth, or while saving a warrior from bleeding out." She thinks of these words every time she has an asthma attack now, and gets angry at herself, which ultimately worsens the attack altogether. One of these attacks happened to occur while on a training session with Daydream. Luckily, they were able to get it under control. Then there was the meeting at the Starcave. She wished it had never happened. There was Shinefang and Daydream, fighting again, and then, to make it worse, StarClan decided to send all the medicine cats the same joint vision of death and a draining river, plus the words that would haunt her the rest of her life.
